Consistently automated processes are more important than ever in the manufacturing industry today. This is why Tebis brings automation and flexibility even closer together. In this context, in addition to turning milling and mill-turning, Tebis also supports interpolation turning, which allows rotationally symmetrical areas to be manufactured easily and cost-effectively even on many milling machines. With combined turning/milling, turning and milling operations can be carried out consistently and highly efficiently on one machine without reclamping – this reduces throughput times and dramatically lowers costs.
Christoph Brückner, Key Account Manager at Tebis, explains: “The relatively new manufacturing process of interpolation turning is right on trend. It enables turning operations on all machines with position-controlled spindles – including milling machines. With interpolation turning, time savings of 80 percent can be achieved, for example because areas that previously had to be milled can now be turned.”
In addition, simple turning tools with long tool life can be used instead of expensive ground milling tools. Since the cutting edge is continuously in use during interpolation turning, very high surface qualities are achieved.
“With 6-axis simultaneous interpolation turning, even undercut component areas can be manufactured easily and efficiently in one setup,” explains Jakub Dittmar, product manager at Tebis. “Since very short tools can also be used in multi-axis turning and the spindle interpolates very evenly, we achieve an even better surface quality with this type of machining. The ideal technology when precision is the top priority. We have already applied for a patent for this promising and future-oriented process in Europe.”
