Rough blasting and the “light version” sweeping create the best possible basis for subsequent work steps. Blasting processes are a sustainable mechanical alternative to chemical phosphating.
Process promotes “clawing” of materials
Precisely defined and reproducible roughness values promote the “clawing” of different materials and counteract detachment and corrosion. The process counteracts the much-feared infiltration of corrosion by coatings that do not adhere perfectly. Rough blasting and sweeping are used, among other things. used in the automotive industry, mechanical engineering or medical technology. Partial treatments of workpieces are also possible.
Rough blasting with angular blasting grain – for as many profile tips as possible
The crucial factor in rough blasting is the so-called RPc value. It defines the number of profile tips. “Our goal is to enlarge and nest the surface as best as possible. We achieve this with an appropriately angular blasting grain,” explains Marco Heinemann, Managing Director of KST Kugel-Strahltechnik. On request, the surface specialists determine the optimal roughness value for each workpiece – according to customer specifications. The perfect match is crucial for implementation: a well-thought-out combination of blasting agent and grain shape, blasting pressure and speed as well as system technology. There are also other parameters. This requires a lot of experience: the Hagen blasting professionals have been using the process for many years.
Sweeping: Light version for hot-dip galvanized surfaces
Hot-dip galvanized surfaces require particularly sensitive treatment. They use sweeping with low-dose beam energy. It promotes the outgassing of the zinc layer and removes impurities, air pockets and corrosion. This creates a duplex surface in accordance with DIN EN ISO 12944-4.
